Dutch Landscape 30

One summer I spent a few weeks around Húns, a small village in Friesland. I got around by bicycle and stopped to draw what I found: the end of a fence, two posts, the corner of a barn door, a gable, the sails of a windmill. I didn't draw the landscape. I drew parts of it. From those drawings I made wooden puzzles, the kind a child is given before learning to read. Birch plywood, cut by hand with a saw and painted in a few flat colours. Every piece has a number. The empty space has one too. It is a piece like any other, usually the largest, and without it the others would have nowhere to be. I also made drawings in coloured pencil, numbered in the same way. Some areas are filled with colour. Others are just two lines and a number, as if the colour hadn't arrived yet. Even the air around a house has a number.
